Why I Quit My Six-Figure Job to Build a Life That Finally Felt Like Mine
Nov 24, 2025
You know that feeling when everything looks perfect on the outside, but deep down, you know something’s missing? That was me in 2013. I was thriving in a six-figure senior role, moving into my dream apartment and ticking off my goals like clockwork. From the outside, it looked like I had it all. But the truth? I was running on empty and I didn’t even realise it.
Then, life threw me a curveball that changed everything.
The Diagnosis That Changed My World
In 2013, my mum was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare, incurable cancer. It was like the ground beneath me disappeared. My mum was my rock, my biggest cheerleader and the person who always had the answers. Suddenly, I was the one who had to step up and I had no idea how to navigate it.
I threw myself into research, determined to find ways to support her. Juicing, alternative therapies, anything that could help her feel stronger going into her treatments. At the same time, I was managing huge work projects, paying a mortgage, and because I clearly didn’t have enough on my plate training to become a Pilates teacher (at my mum’s insistence). She told me not to wait another year and she was right. That training became my escape, my way of holding onto something that felt like me.
For nearly three years, I juggled it all. But when my mum passed away in 2015, it was the final blow. I was utterly devastated, lost and overwhelmed.
Hitting Rock Bottom
After losing my mum, I became a “sister mum” to my 21-year-old brother, who is on the autism spectrum. Overnight, I took on the role of caregiver while still trying to hold everything else together. The stress kept piling on, and I hit breaking point when I miscarried my first child just days before the anniversary of my mum’s passing.
Heartbroken doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt. I was burnt out and I felt like I was failing at everything, work, family, and life. It was taking a toll on my relationship too. I remember sitting at my desk one day, staring at my computer screen, and thinking, I can’t do this anymore.
The one thing I kept hearing from that inner voice was this: You need to heal yourself physically and emotionally if you’re going to take your life to the next level.
Rebuilding Myself
Quitting my job felt terrifying, but it was also the most liberating decision I’ve ever made. I knew I couldn’t keep pouring from an empty cup. I became my own case study, using everything I’d learned over the years to rebuild myself from the ground up.
I exercised daily, stuck to a healthy eating plan, cut out toxic influences (including people) and focused on enjoying the positive things in life. Doctors told me it wouldn’t be possible to have children naturally. They said I’d need an operation followed by IVF. But I didn’t let that stop me from taking a holistic approach. Six months later, I fell pregnant naturally.
Motherhood and Finding My Calling
Motherhood brought its own challenges. I was constantly battling brain fog and sleep deprivation while trying to care for a new baby and my family. There were days I couldn’t even remember if I’d brushed my own teeth. I felt myself spiralling, I was losing myself again.
Then one day, a thought hit me clearly: If you’re not taking care of yourself, how are you going to take care of anyone else?
I quickly realised the only way I’d survive was to go back to my project management roots so I could get sh*t done. I had over 15 years of experience managing multi-million-pound portfolios, so I knew that putting some structure around my life would help tremendously. Of course, I wasn’t 100% in control - who is when there’s a newborn in the house?!
But I put systems in place to keep my sanity, stay productive, and take care of myself.
Why I Do What I Do
Once I started following my own action plan, I gained clarity and felt empowered to help others do the same. While still on maternity leave, I started getting questions from other business owners. They wanted to work more productively and less reactively, to reach their business goals while still having time to focus on the things they loved.
That’s when I realised my calling: to combine my decades of wellness studies and project management experience to help women like you.
Today, I help my clients implement simple strategies to:
- Reclaim their energy and focus.
- Build thriving businesses without burnout.
- Create space for the things that matter most.
