Episode 25 - Why You Need to Start with YOU

Answer this question for me: WHY do you want to build your business?

What are you doing all of this for? And why do you want to have a balance between making your career and financial dreams come true and having a healthy, happy personal life?

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been focussing on topics such as believing in yourself, creating productive systems, accountability, time blocking and looking after your own needs.

But there is one key message that I want to bring home to you in this episode.

You need to start with you.

When you can put yourself at the core of your business, find what motivates you and take action (however small) you can beat overwhelm and procrastination and start making your dreams come true.

I've always believed that if you are not well, you have no business.

Therefore, you need to invest in yourself and your own well-being so everything else will follow.

Start small. Make a decision. Make a 1% change. And start making it happen!

In this week's episode, I’m here to help you do just that. I’ll be sharing my personal insight, strategies and stories that can help you enhance your well-being and build your business.

We’ll be talking about everything from how I do my internal reset, how journaling helps clear the mind and refresh the soul and how you could get clear on your desires, goals, and dreams. Don’t miss it!

Show Transcript:

My ethos is to invest in yourself before you do anything else because you are your business at the moment. Especially if you are a solo business owner, a lot falls upon you. And until you're at that stage where you're able to delegate things out, you need to make sure that you're able to look after you.

Eleshia Harris: Hi, I'm Eleshia Harris and I am your host of The Eleshia Show. I am also the founder of eleshialifestyle.com, and I'm so excited that you're here with me and I am here with you. I'm also really appreciative. Each week, I'll be sharing strategies and stories, and insights to help you enhance your wellbeing and to build your business while still navigating life. Because sometimes we often try and separate the two, and let's face it, if you are not well, you have no business. So let's try and work with these two things combined because we can, to enhance your lifestyle. Again, I'm really excited to have you here. I have wanted to put together a podcast for over two years, and so here I am ready to share. Let's get into this week's episode.

Hi, and welcome back to The Eleshia Show. Over the last couple of weeks, we have discussed a lot. We talked about how to conquer burnout. I shared with you four holistic planning prompts. And then I also shared the systems and products that I like to use to help my working day flow. We talked about why accountability is important and why time blocking for me really helps me stay grounded and focused on the tasks that I have planned and the projects that I want to move forward. Today, I want you to bring everything together because you're probably thinking, Eleshia, that's a lot of information. Where do I start? What do I do first? I am here to tell you that the first thing you do is look within and you ask yourself, what do I want to do? I know that's probably not the answer you thought that I was going to say. But I really want you to start with you. Why are all of these topics important to you? What is it that you want to achieve? What is your "why"? Why are you so passionate about what you do? How can all of the information that I've not only shared over the last couple of weeks but over the course of the episodes, can you believe that we are now at 25 episodes published?

Even saying that aloud gives me the chills. And just to give you an update, we have now been listened to in over 36 countries and over 293 cities. For me, that is mind-blowing. It just being a dream. It was a dream for me to put this podcast together. And then to be able to have that as a dream and scope it all out and decide the conversations that I really wanted to have, and to be confident enough to actually put myself out there into the world. Yes, it was overwhelming, and I procrastinated. As I've said, it took me two years to make a decision to do this. But then I got to a place where I had the right people around me, my community was cheering me on and telling me to do it and to believe in myself. And I had to listen.

I listened to them. And I also listened to my inner self. I started to get really quiet and listened to my intuition. And I can't believe that within five months, this is where we're at. I want to say a huge thank you to all of you who have subscribed, have told people, have shared episodes, have just been really supportive, and have helped the podcast to be heard in all of those different places. I just want you to know that I appreciate you. I appreciate all of the love and support. This is the reason why I want to say to you, whatever dreams and desires that you have at the moment, please, please start taking action on them. And it doesn't have to be overwhelming. Remember what our Pamela said? She said, start with doing 1%. Start with doing 1% of something that you really want to change in your life or something that you really want to do in your life.

So just start with 1%. All of the things that I have discussed over the last couple of weeks with regards to things that you may want to implement into your business, start small. Go back and listen to the previous episodes, and make a decision on what you're going to start with. And also, remember to really think about where you are in your female cycle. Remember, that is another huge tool that you could be using to move your business forward. It has really helped me immensely to recognize and to know what tasks I am going to do in what phase of my female cycle.

So I love to chunk down my task to really align with where I am in my cycle. Remember, even if you don't have a cycle anymore, you can use the moon and you can align with the moon. And there is so much benefit from doing that. I also want to say, have gratitude and come from a place of love when it comes to really deciding what it is you want to do with moving your business and your desires forward. Really connect within and think about what is best for you. You know that my ethos is to invest in yourself before you do anything else because you are your business at the moment. Especially if you are a solo business owner, a lot falls upon you. And until you're at that stage where you're able to delegate things out, you need to make sure that you're able to look after you. That is always going to be my advice to you. Look at what's happening within. Look at what's happening around you with regards to your family. Really take control of just ensuring that you have enough space and time for any additional projects that you might be wanting to take on. And just really being okay with the fact that sometimes, shit doesn't happen the way you wanted to.

Take a couple of days ago. My day started off really badly and I did not want it to continue. I just wanted to put my head down on my pillow and pull the covers over my head, and to really just rest and relax in the day. I was saying to a friend, I'm not doing anything today. The day has started off bad so I'm just going to let it go, and I'll start again tomorrow. She had the foresight to say to me, Eleshia, do you know what? Maybe you should take a walk and come back and just reconsider how you are feeling. And I was like, you know what, I'm going to do that. So I took a walk, and I came back. And then I was drawn to meditate.

I know that's not for everybody, but you have some time so you can just be silent and just see what thoughts come up. It was really nice. And then I journaled about what came up and how I felt. And then I was ready to start my day. This all sounds a little bit cliche, but it's everything that I stand for so I just had to reset. So I have my green juice. I had a nice shower. I have got to a stage where I love the products that I'm using at the moment. You know that I'm a big fan of Beauty Pie. Their cleansing shower gel is amazing. I just stayed in the shower, and I just let the water rush over me. And again, just having that moment of stillness really helped reset my mood.

And from then, I was able to come out. I got dressed. I put my boss girl hoops on and some lip gloss. And I was ready to start the day. Then I had a really good day, a really good productive day. I sent a few emails out. I did a few recordings. And the day just came together. The reason why I'm sharing this with you is, on that day, I sent out a particular email. And I just want you to say thank you to somebody. That person responded in a way that has completely blown my mind. And I will be sharing with you, I promise soon, what came out of that. But I just felt like it was a sign from the universe that sometimes you can't sit in that sunken place where you don't want to do anything.

When you decide that you're going to put one step forward, you are rewarded. So I just want you to know that there is support when you need it.  I love to help others really get clear on their desires and their goals and their dreams. If it's something that you have been sitting on and you can't find a way of moving forward, as I said in the episode with regards to gaining external accountability, look and find yourself a mentor or a coach, an accountability partner, I am here. I will share all of my details in the show notes with regards to how you can work with me. But remember, you can also go back over a lot of the episodes and just start there.

Yes, just know that there is support out there for you. As I've mentioned before, one of the reasons why I decided to put this podcast together is because sometimes it can be really lonely being a business owner. That's why for me, I am really invested in building a community to help other female business owners and to have those difficult conversations that sometimes we don't want to talk about with regards to putting our wellbeing first, and what is coming up from a health and lifestyle perspective. That's why I'm so passionate about bringing on different expertise onto the podcast to help and to give their point of view and to give their expertise on how we can ensure that we are moving forward from a place of health and nutrition and wellbeing and love and gratitude. And ensuring that we are living in the best we can out here because it's really not easy sometimes.

That's the whole reason why for me, we have to make sure that we know that we are not alone on this journey. There are so many ways that you can tap into help when you need it. Again, I'm here if you need me.

Thank you, once again, for all of the support that you have shown me over these last 25 episodes. I cannot wait to see what else is around the corner for The Eleshia Lifestyle Podcast, but also, for The Eleshia Lifestyle brand. There are some exciting things coming up. Remember, Autumn Academy starts on the 5th of October. And if you have not booked on to be a part of that implementation program, I suggest you do. I suggest you do. Summer School was amazing. We got so much done in that short period of time. But also, the bond that the ladies have made in that first cohort is just beautiful to watch. It's so nice to hear that they are still keeping in touch, and they are working with each other to help each other. That just brings me so much joy.

Go and sign yourself up. Again, I will share the information in the show notes. And I can wait until next week. In October, in the UK, it is Black History Month. And so for the whole month of October, I am going to be speaking to other black female business owners, and we're going to have great conversations about different subjects. So make sure you tune in to The Eleshia Show throughout October and beyond, obviously. Thank you so so much, and I look forward to speaking to you again next week. Take care. Bye-bye.

Thank you so much for listening to this week's episode of The Eleshia Show. If you know somebody who needs to hear the conversations that we are having, please share it. Take a screenshot and send it to them. Also, I would really love for you to rate and review the podcast as this really helps, and I'd love to read your comments. Lastly, remember, you need to invest in yourself first because you are important and amazing. Take care. Until next time. Bye-bye.
